What is a DSE Assessment
How can I benefit?
How often should I be assessed?
Why is are these assessment important to me?
If we use the analogy of a tower structure when sat, our foundations our feet, thighs and gluteals, we are steady and balanced if these are set correctly. The tower of our spine and rooms of our shoulders are stable and aligned well, with minimum effort and local joint compressive forces, they will less likely cause issues.
DSE advice aims to optimise our physical work foundations, but is often overlooked. As a result, low back, mid back or neck and shoulder pain are prevalent in the office. This could lead to time off work and getting less done when you want to be able to perform.
Our bodies inherently benefit from movement and a busy work schedule and concentrating for extended periods without it, can lead to physical decline. That, combined with a poor workstation set up, can cascade into discomfort.
I have spent my career, curating better working environments for my clients, as well as giving tailored advice to apply in the home and office.
From experience of clinical work, I see a lack of coherent DSE application and engagement. This is likely due to poor understanding of how it can be connected to day-to-day work pain or sporting pain and injuries and the mix of them all, that can affect activity levels and thereby mood, productivity and creativity.
I aim to make DSE assessment relevant to daily life in an engaging way and follow this ethos on to educate on general physical health, postural patterns and body to mind connectivity.
